"Two Roads Diverged"
Diptych-each panel 60 x 20 SOLD
I painted this from a photo Billy took on July 4, 2005. We were
stopping at every 'stop' on the Natchez Trace from Nashville to
Kosciusko, MS. We got off the highway and hiked out onto the Old
Trace and took the photo. I 'added' another path going off to the
right...from the poem "Two Roads Diverged in a Yellow
Wood". Billy has included his interpretation in this show--
in yellows-which was NOT July in Mississippi. He titled his
"The Road Home".

"Zebra With Red Sky"
48" x 60"-SOLD
This has become my all time favorite painting that I've
completed. Unlike "My Name is...." which had to be done
over, this one just 'came' and flowed. Or other ptgs which may
take over a year in working and reworking, this one was fast. The
"sun" has lots of texture and needs to be touched and
felt. The internet just won't allow 'everything'.

"The Dancer"
40 x 30 $2500
Jackson Street Gallery
This painting has lots of 'string medium' all over. I first
covered the canvas with large blocks of colors. I then 'strung'
medium all over and let that dry well. Next I applied the 'darks'
over the background and used an old credit card to wipe the darks
off the 'transparent stringy parts'. This let the colors from the
underpainting show up through the strings.
The dancer is from a photo Billy took of our granddaughter
Chelsea in June 06 at her dance recital in Charleston, SC.

|
"The Eye of The Zebra"
48" x 48" $4000
Jackson Street Gallery
Again, this painting flowed easily and quickly...it seems the
zebras do that. I wanted this one to be more abstract and maybe
not quite 'recognizable' at first as a zebra. There are also lots
of dots of color scattered all over.

"Daddy Look"
30 x 40 $2000
Jackson Street Gallery Billy took this photo in Siena Italy in May 2005.
We were sitting in the Piazza del Campo where we watched this
toddler chasing pigeons while her daddy photographed her.
|
"Reflections"
30 x 40 $2200
Jackson Street Gallery
This ptg is about an old man staring out his window while
reflecting on a mother and child. Who are they?
|
"Single White Female"
30 x 40 $1600
Jackson Street Gallery
This cow lives in a pasture we pass every morning and night. She
took over a year for me to finally finish, and has 'pounds' of paint
'underneath' her. The more I painted the farther I would get from my
original concept...the white cow and the moon. I finally took lots
more paint rollers of various sorts and kept applying
textures...She, the moon and the indigo sky never changed. There are
even orange sunflowers somewhere down underneath!
|
"Golden Fleece"
36 x 60 $3000
Jackson Street Gallery
|
"Moonshine"
36 x 30 SOLD
I had this painting in two galleries and finally brought it home
for over a year... One day in October I picked up a brush and
started 'outlining' the leaves on the tree. I then used a roller and
applied layers of texture on the moon and sky. This time it
'worked'. The painting was originally named Apollo 14 Moon
Sycamore.
In 1971, when NASA first sent and returned seeds from space on
Apollo 14, they sent some of the sycamore seed to Mississippi State
University. This is that tree 35 years later.
|
"Hope"
30 x 40 SOLD
In 2005, friends came to have tea with me and celebrate
being a 1 yr survivor of a heart attack. They brought me yellow
roses --which symbolize "Hope". The rose on the
table is one of those. I have been asked 'why 2 coffee cups?'
I wanted to convey the feeling that there is 'someone else' who is
not 'quite in the picture'---that person has just left; or maybe she
is waiting for that one.
|
"Weaving The Day"
36 x 48 $2800
Long ago, in a far away place, I used to do spinning and weaving.
This painting was originally done 2-3 yrs ago but never quite made
me happy. In November I pulled it back out and reworked the
composition and decided at that time to add 'weaving' to the
background, so it is double framed on burlap which I painted and
then pulled threads out to match the line up of some of the warp and
weft of the lines 'weaving' the sun.
|
"Apple And Enamel Teapot"
11 x 14 $400
This was done from a still life set up with a strong light
mounted at the lower left of the setup. The challenge on something
like this is to paint it quickly enough that the apple doesn't
shrivel up. So something like this can't take a year to
complete...not using real apples.

Ballin's Ltd, the dress shop next door to Jackson Street
Gallery, featured WomenHeart in their window during December. They
displayed my print in a larger version ("Wear Red For Women's
Hearts") and mannequins in red dresses. There are also
paintings by Opal Smith displayed.

At 6:30 I held a 'gallery talk' in which I told 'my story' and
my involvement with WomenHeart.
I was able to share information about women and heart disease
and talk about the HeartScarves
project.
